Hear from Dan who joined us as a graduate tax trainee in August 2022.

Dan: Graduate tax trainee since August 2022
Studied: Biochemistry and Genetics PhD
University: Kent

I joined McBrides in August 2022 and am currently studying to complete the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) apprenticeship.

After completing my PhD, I knew I wanted to move into a role that enabled me to interact with people and improve my understanding of business. I was drawn to the tax apprenticeship route as I could study while gaining on-the-job experience.

Why McBrides?

Looking at the website ahead of my interview made it clear how McBrides focuses on providing value to local businesses and private clients alike, and I liked the idea of contributing professionally to my local community.

What do you most enjoy?

I’m really enjoying the ability to learn from experienced professionals day-to-day – be that technical knowledge, professional conduct, or building client relationships.

I’ve just completed my second tax returns season here at McBrides, which is great experience to have under my belt. Following returns through the whole drafting process makes completing returns that much more rewarding.

Advice for others

If you’re considering an apprenticeship, go for it! You’ll have the opportunity to advance towards a qualification while gaining professional experience and earning at the same time.
