Hundreds of items of food and toiletries, warm clothes and Christmas lights are among gifts on a shopping list compiled by McBrides Chartered Accountants to give to community groups in Bexley as part of the 50-year-old firm’s charitable giving this Christmas.
Based in Foots Cray in Kent, McBrides has helped charities throughout the year thanks to its ‘Community Chest’ project organised by employees of the firm.
Managing partner Tanya Hamilton explains: “We developed the Community Chest initiative to tie in with our 50th anniversary celebrations this year. Our building, on the crossroads in Foots Cray, is a recognisable landmark in the community, and given we work here, we wanted to focus on local charities and give something back.”
Bexley Winter Shelter, Bexley Foodbank, Mind in Bexley Community Pantry, Orchard Primary School, St Peter Chanel School and Hope Community School received much-needed items carefully selected by the team at McBrides.
Tanya Hamilton adds: “Under guidance from the six organisations, we have purchased items that will help help people in Sidcup and Bexley who use their essential services throughout the year, and especially this Christmas.
“We also want to extend a helping hand to three of our nearest primary schools, so St Peter Chanel, Hope Community Primary and Orchard Primary School will all receive support from our Community Chest this year.”
The first organisation to receive their items from the McBrides Community Chest was Hope Community School, just 250 yards from McBrides offices in Foots Cray. The team delivered them to the leadership team at the school.
Headteacher Mrs Sara Donnelly said: “Our neighbours, McBrides Chartered Accountants, have blown us away with a huge donation of food items for our Breakfast and Afterschool clubs as well as some seasonal treats for the children. This means that we can now redirect funds to other resources for the children.
“Over the years, McBrides have been a particularly generous community link for us, providing a luxury hamper for us to use as a raffle prize and one year donating several monitor screens which we are still using now. A huge thank you to the staff at McBrides for all their time, effort and generosity.”
Donations have also been made to Bexley Winter Shelter, Bexley Foodbank, Mind in Bexley, Orchard Primary School and St Peter Chanel School.
