Hear from Jamie who joined us in summer 2023 to study for his ACCA qualification having qualified with the AAT at another firm straight from A Levels.
Jamie: School leaver ACCA apprentice
A levels: Finance, Business and Psychology
Professional qualifications: AAT level 2, AAT level 3 and AAT level 4
I didn’t know what I wanted to do until I studied finance at sixth form and found it really interesting. This led me to studying the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification instead of going to university to see if accountancy would be something I would enjoy.
I chose McBrides because after research I could see it was a supportive training environment. I’m also getting exposure to a wide variety of clients working in the outsourcing and accounts teams.
What is the ACCA like?
Having qualified with the AAT, I’ve just started studying for my ACCA qualification and have my first exam in March. I’m due to sit four exams each year until I qualify as a chartered certified accountant.
Advice for school leavers
I’d definitely advise going down the school leavers route and studying AAT whilst gaining invaluable work experience simultaneously.
